This basement flat was the first part of the refurbishment of a splendid terrace property in Myddelton Square one of Islington’s Finest Georgian Squares. The property a Grade ii Georgian Listed Building has been in the same ownership and a family home for several decades originally being refurbished in the 1970s it had become tired and dated. Work started in the self-contained basement flat to allow the couple to move in whilst the main house above was refurbished. The work involved refurbishing and rearranging the small kitchen off the sitting room, modernizing the bathroom to provide a modern wet room and generally updating and decorating the sitting room, bedroom and access light well.
On completion of the basement flat, refurbishment of the house took place revealing and uncovering many period features that had been covered up in the 70’s refurbishment. The ground floor kitchen was redesigned to allow use of the existing Georgian shutters and the hob fitted in the former fireplace making better use of the space. Bathrooms, bedrooms and the dressing room were all redesigned in the existing spaces replacing cupboards and sanitary units throughout. Finally the walls, windows and existing floors were made good and the property decorated throughout.
